River Cocker Natural Flood Management & Wetland Creation

Floodwater Storage Works – Iredale Place, Loweswater
Delivered on behalf of West Cumbria Rivers Trust

We were pleased to support West Cumbria Rivers Trust in delivering natural flood management interventions at Iredale Place, Loweswater, designed to increase floodwater storage capacity and enhance biodiversity.

Key Works Undertaken:

  • Construction of three flood storage ponds and multiple scrapes to retain excess water during high rainfall events.
  • Excavation of 2,950m³ of material from the newly created ponds.
  • Installation of 60m³ of interlocking stone to form durable, engineered overflow channels.
  • Infilled an existing ditch and excavated a new 140m meandering stream channel to help slow water flow and reconnect the watercourse with its natural floodplain.

These interventions will support both flood resilience and ecological improvement, contributing to a more dynamic and naturalised landscape.
