As the appointed contractor, we were proud to support West Cumbria Rivers Trust in delivering key elements of the Glenderamackin Catchment Restoration Project, which has been running for the past four years. Funded through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development’s Water Environment Grant scheme, this initiative has involved close collaboration with landowners and partner organisations to implement a range of biodiversity and natural flood management interventions. The overarching goal is to reduce flood risk in Keswick while enhancing the ecological health of local watercourses and surrounding landscapes.
Our specific contribution to the project involved the construction of a new pond and the restoration and enlargement of two existing ponds across three sites in the Thirlmere area. We also installed livestock fencing to protect these areas and support long-term environmental benefits. Completed in early September 2022 under favourable weather conditions, the work has already shown positive outcomes, with noticeable improvements in habitat quality and biodiversity.
