Wydon Farm Wetland Restoration, Northumberland

Project Overview:
TM Lindsay Ltd delivered the Wydon Farm Wetland Restoration project, creating approximately 4 hectares of new wetland habitat across the site. The works involved blocking two existing field ditches that drained into the Tipalt Burn, excavating several chutes, and enhancing flow diversity using large woody material.

In addition, a series of ponds were constructed in other areas of the site to further improve biodiversity and water retention. All materials were reused on site, with no import or export of soil, ensuring a cost-efficient and environmentally sustainable outcome.

The completed works successfully restored natural hydrological processes, improved habitat quality, and contributed to wider catchment-scale restoration objectives.

Key Activities:

  • Blocking of two existing field ditches flowing into Tipalt Burn

  • Excavation of chutes to improve connectivity and flow pathways

  • Installation and positioning of large woody material to enhance in-stream habitat diversity

  • Construction of multiple ponds to increase water retention and support wetland ecology

  • Reuse of all site-won materials (zero import/export) to maintain sustainability

  • Fine grading and profiling of wetland features to design specifications

  • Implementation of on-site environmental protection and sediment control measures
