Wetland Creation at Foulsyke, Loweswater

We undertook these works on behalf of West Cumbria Rivers Trust (WCRT).

The proposed works form part of WCRT’s ongoing habitat enhancement efforts within the Cocker Catchment and was funded through the Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme.

The site lies within the River Derwent catchment, which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), due to its importance for species such as Atlantic salmon.

The construction of these ponds help increase habitat diversity in the area and contribute to the growing network of wetland and aquatic features being developed throughout the Cocker Catchment.

Key Works Undertaken:

  • • Pond 1: 30m long x35m wide x av. 1m deep
    • Pond 2: 25m long x 15m wide x av. 1m deep
    • Pond 3: 25m x 25m x av. 1m deep

We are pleased to contribute our expertise in sustainable watercourse management to a project that brings long-term environmental and ecological benefits to this valued landscape.
